Organizational Structure

Organizational Structure 

-an arrangement of jobs and groups of jobs within an organization 

-structure describes how members are accepted, how leadership is chosen, and how decisions are made.

Span of control

-The number of subordinates a manager is expected to supervise

Wide span of control is to reduces expenses, but requires more management skill and may reduce effective feedback. 

Narrow span of control is where a manager directly line manages a small number of subordinates.

Chain of Command  

- is the order in which authority in an organization is delegated from top management.



Organizations are structured in different ways:
1. function
2. regional area
3. product
4. into work teams

 

Why should you develop a structure for your organization? 

1.Structure gives members clear guidelines for how to proceed

2.Structure binds members together

3.Structure in any organization is inevitable
